In a historic move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister of Delhi, marking the party’s return to power in the capital after 27 years. Gupta, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Shalimar Bagh, has a rich background in student politics and municipal governance. She began her political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Delhi University, serving as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 1996-97. Her tenure in municipal politics includes multiple terms as a councillor and a stint as the Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). As Chief Minister, Gupta aims to implement women-centric policies and address key issues in the capital.
