A major archaeological discovery has been made in Andhra Pradesh’s Lankkamala Reserve Forest, where experts found ancient rock inscriptions and prehistoric paintings dating back 800 to 2000 years. The Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) recent survey revealed three rock shelters, one of which contained stunning depictions of animals, geometric patterns, and human figures created using natural materials like red ochre and animal fat.
The inscriptions, dating from the 4th to 16th century CE, suggest Lankkamala was once a significant Shaivite pilgrimage site, frequently visited by devotees from North India. The findings provide key insights into the cultural and religious history of the region, marking it as one of the most significant archaeological breakthroughs in recent times.
