As the countdown begins for ISRO’s monumental 100th mission, the GSLV rocket is poised to launch the NVS-02 navigation satellite on January 29, 2025. This historic mission, marking a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey, will be the 100th launch from the renowned Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
The GSLV-F15 rocket, equipped with an indigenous Cryogenic upper stage, will carry the second satellite in the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) series. This satellite is designed to enhance India’s ability to provide precise navigation services not only across the Indian subcontinent but also extending to regions about 1,500 km beyond the Indian borders. The NVS-02 satellite, weighing 2,250 kg, will strengthen the NavIC constellation, ensuring continuity of accurate position, velocity, and timing services.
This mission also marks the first under ISRO’s new Chairman, V Narayanan, who assumed office on January 13, 2025. The 27-hour countdown, which began on January 27, is set to culminate in the rocket’s liftoff at 6:23 AM on January 29.
With applications ranging from terrestrial, aerial, and maritime navigation to precision agriculture and IoT services, the NVS-02 satellite is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing India’s technological capabilities and global positioning.
Stay tuned for more updates on this landmark mission as ISRO continues to push the boundaries of space exploration.
