The Indian government has announced an ambitious project to translate the Constitution into all 22 languages listed in the 8th Schedule by March 2025. Led by the National Translation Mission and supported by the Ministry of Law and Justice, this initiative aims to make the Constitution accessible to all citizens, promoting linguistic inclusivity and enhancing understanding of constitutional rights.
President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the Maithili and Sanskrit translations on Samvidhan Diwas 2024, marking the 75th anniversary of the Constitution. These translations add to the existing 18 languages, with Maithili now empowering communities in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Nepal to connect with constitutional principles in their native tongue.
