External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar begins his six-day visit to the UK and Ireland today, where he will engage in discussions with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other dignitaries. The visit comes amid heightened diplomatic activity, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosting European leaders to bolster support for Ukraine. India, maintaining its strategic neutrality, continues to advocate for dialogue and diplomacy rather than taking sides in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Apart from geopolitical discussions, Jaishankar is also expected to advance negotiations on the India-UK free trade agreement, which was recently relaunched during British Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds’ visit to India. His engagements will further strengthen India’s strategic ties with the UK and Ireland, emphasizing economic, defense, and cultural cooperation.
