A fierce war of words has erupted between TMC MP Mahua Moitra and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over a video from Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park (CR Park), a neighborhood renowned for its vibrant Bengali culture and love for fish.
On April 8, Moitra shared a video that allegedly shows a man from a saffron-clad group ordering the shutdown of a fish market adjacent to a temple, claiming it violates Sanatani beliefs.
“Are we all supposed to eat dhoklas and chant Jai Shri Ram?” Moitra tweeted on April 9, tagging the Delhi Police and questioning why no action had been taken against those seen in the video.

In the video, a man is heard saying,
“A fish market sharing a wall with a temple hurts the sentiments of Sanatanis… Killing of any kind is against Sanatan Dharma.”
Mahua Moitra responded sharply, alleging that these very fish vendors had built and maintained the temple.
“They worship there, and even hold major pujas. Never in 60 years has this happened,” she said.

The incident comes just 3 months after BJP formed the Delhi government, defeating AAP in the recent assembly polls.
Former AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj defended the fishmongers:
“These are legal shops allotted by DDA. CR Park is peaceful, and Bengalis’ dietary habits must be respected.”
🛕 BJP Responds
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva countered the allegations, saying:
“Fish traders maintain cleanliness and have always respected the temple. The video was shared to stir up disharmony.”
He added that the BJP strongly condemned any violence and urged Delhi Police to take proper action.
